The Earth is in (Y)our Hands
Expanded cinema performance, The Bowery Theatre, St Albans VIC, 2026
Project description
The Earth is in (Y)our Hands is an expanded cinema performance told by the fungi, plants and animals of Brimbank: a poem to humanity, penned by its flora and fauna. Who are the true stewards of the Earth? Whose hands hold its future? Here, the human is no longer the observer but the observed.
Perspectives from the stinkhorn fungus, the paper daisy and the wedge-tailed eagle invite audiences to reconsider their place within the kingdom of Animalia. Featuring actors, singers, circus and dance performers from First Nations-owned arts company The Dreaming Project, the work leads audiences out of the theatre and into the surrounding grounds. A miniature planet Earth, a 3D-printed globe with a projector inside, is passed between audience members, who carry it to sites inside and outside the theatre where it reveals the next part of the story.
Created during a Bowery Theatre residency with Brimbank artists and the Iramoo Grassland Centre and Nursery, the work premiered with two shows at The Bowery Theatre on 29 and 30 May 2026.
