Asking the Bluestone
Dear Church,
Sorry about the tripod. And the extension leads. And the nights we spent throwing tests at your walls while you were trying to sleep.
You’ve been standing here since 1856. You were lava before that, and before that something even slower. I’ve been doing this for about fifteen years, which in bluestone time is a sneeze.
Every test came back different. Too blue and you went cold on us. Too warm and you looked like a pub. Somewhere around the fourth go, the arched windows started doing the work themselves, and I learned to stop adding things.
Out on the stony rises the Murnong was still underground, waiting for its cue. I’m trying to learn that kind of patience. I’m bad at it.
Thank you for being a very patient screen.
Yours, slightly embarrased,
Lee
