Mapping the Moving Image

Projector Bike rides, Mapping Melbourne (Multicultural Arts Victoria), Melbourne VIC, 2017

Project description

Mapping the Moving Image was a cross-city dialogue between Osaka and Melbourne, told through short film.

On two Friday nights in December 2017, riders set off from Testing Grounds in Southbank on Projector Bike rides through the Melbourne CBD, stopping to screen short films by emerging filmmakers from Osaka College of Art onto building facades, bridges and other city infrastructure. Each film was matched to its screening site, so a film about Japan’s newest fast train played under a Melbourne railway bridge as Metro trains rattled overhead.

The rides re-mapped each city through the other’s moving image, and were presented as part of Multicultural Arts Victoria’s Mapping Melbourne 2017, a festival of independent contemporary Asian art.
